The Silver Surfer was originally a young astronomer named Norrin Radd. He served as Galactus's herald in order to spare his homeworld, the planet Zenn-La, from being devoured by the titan. When the Fantastic Four demonstrated that they could beat Galactus with the Ultimate Nullifier, however, the Surfer switched his alleigances, making a very powerful enemy in Galactus but finding countless allies in the superheroes of Earth.

Once Loki and Galactus are defeated, Silver Surfer's board finally returned in piece to him, with Galactus is gone, Surfer also free from him.
